Cleveland Middle School is officially an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP).  Every student at Cleveland participates in the IB MYP, which emphasizes project-based learning to address local and global challenges. The IB MYP promotes strategies that encourage lifelong learning.

What is International Baccalaureate?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an international non-profit educational foundation that was founded in 1968. It offers a well-respected standardized educational program that aims to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills needed to thrive in an increasingly globalized world. The mission of IB is to contribute to a better world through education and to nurture inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are driven to succeed. The programs offered by IB encourage students to become critical thinkers, empathetic individuals, and lifelong learners who value and respect other cultures and traditions. These are the skills that students will need to be successful in their academic pursuits, at university, and in their future careers in business and enterprise. In this 21st century, it is important for all students to learn how to be effective, self-regulated learners who can acquire knowledge in various settings, at any time, using any resources or technology – without solely relying on the guidance of teachers.

What does the Middle Years Program offer students?

The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. The program empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally, and globally. The result is young people who are creative, critical, and reflective thinkers.

Cleveland Middle School is a fully authorized MYP. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.

IB MYP Approaches to Learning Skills

Linking the MYP to other IB Programs

The MYP builds on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed by the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), and prepares students for the demanding requirements of the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and IB Career-related Programme (CP).

Cleveland Middle School is excited to continue on the IB journey with Sandia High School. Sandia currently offers the IB Diploma Program. For more information, visit Sandia's website.
